MPM-program in RU // Emphasis on training in human communications
Guðmundur Birgir Halldórsson, project manager of events in Reykjavík City's events department
Guðmundur Birgir Halldórsson is a project manager of events in Reykjavík City's events department.
Organizational skills and knowledge of project management are obviously skills that a project manager must possess, but knowledge of human qualities and leadership skills are no less important in my work. The course has enabled me to implement changes while organizing the festivals I plan.
His work is mostly project-oriented and consists of organizing various festivals organized by the city of Reykjavík, such as Culture Night, Winter Festival and Children's Culture Festival. In May 2019, Guðmundur Birgir attended training at the City of Reykjavík on project management for employees of the Culture and Tourism Department of the City of Reykjavík by Helgi Þórs Ingason, one of the organizers of the MPM program. He says that the course really appealed to him and that's why he subsequently learned about MPM while studying at Reykjavík University.
The projects I carry out require a lot of planning, and in order to better handle the implementation, I wanted to learn to better adopt some of the tools used in the field of project management. The MPM program turned out to be fun and challenging and is characterized by a comprehensive sharing of knowledge and diverse challenges. A lot of work is done with psychological aspects related to the work of the project manager, and emphasis is placed on training in human relations. These factors hit the mark for me and the program has increased my personal development as well as my professionalism in the organization and management of projects.
Guðmundar Birgis' future goals are to continue to grow as a project manager and manager and to use the methods he has learned in the MPM program in the last two years.
I want to pass on this new knowledge and experience within my workplace and the people I work with, both within the city of Reykjavík and outside. The biggest dream project would be to organize the Olympic Games one day.
