"The study in the Department of Applied Engineering at Reykjavik University is highly personalized. The small groups quickly become really close, which I found to be the program‘s biggest advantage. Additionally, the top-notch facilities for the practical part of the program were a great benefit," explains Júlíana Ingimundardóttir, an Electrical Applied Engineer who graduated from RU in January of last year. Currently, she is employed at EFLA in the Energy Department.

However, during her visit to the University Day at RU, she stumbled upon the booth for the Applied Engineering program, which she had previously been unaware of. She was greatly impressed by the program's project-oriented approach and that you will receive the professional title of a certified engineer upon graduation. "I also found it fascinating how small the groups were, how good the facilities are, and how well RU is connected to the industry."

Júlíana believes the best thing about being an Applied Engineer is its variety. "It's great to see that those of us who graduated last year are pursuing different paths. I'm still exploring my interests and figuring out what I want to focus on in my work. Each day is different and unpredictable, and that's exciting. I'm particularly enjoying working on substation and underground cable projects and hope to continue working on them in the future."

In Applied Engineering, students address practical, real-life engineering design problems under the guidance of our faculty and experts from the local industry. Emphasis is on solid theoretical knowledge and robust design and analysis skillset through practical student projects.

After a BSc thesis, graduates receive certification from the Ministry of Industry to practice as fully qualified engineers, with the professional title of a certified engineer.
