Admission requirements
The requirements specified below are the minimum requirements for admission to the University. Please ensure you check individual programme requirements, as these vary between departments.
Full-time students
Undergraduate
BA, BSc, and Diploma Programmes
To be eligible for entry to an undergraduate programme at Reykjavik University, you must have:
- If a matriculation examination or another comparable education is completed, other degrees will be considered on an individual basis.
Or
- Possess equivalent maturity and knowledge in the opinion of administrators in the respective department.
In evaluating applications, the factors considered are grades on the matriculation examination, further education, professional experience, participation in extracurricular activities, and fields of interest. Applicants are, therefore, encouraged to specify everything they feel may benefit their application

English proficiency requirements
Proof of English proficiency must be provided for students whose first language is not English.
- Minimum English language scores: TOEFL: 577 (PBT) or 91 (IBT) or above OR IELTS: 6.5 or above.
- The DAAD language certificate accepted (B2)
- Cambridge Certificate (B2).
Exemptions from English language requirements.
- Students who have completed one year of university-level education and the medium of instruction was English do not need to submit English language test scores.
- Native English speakers (Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand, USA)
- Countries exempted from English skills requirements: Due to equal national admission requirements for universities in countries such as Iceland, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark
Graduate
All applicants are required to have completed or be in the final year of a Bachelor's degree to apply for our graduate programmes.
For those in the final year of study, satisfactory completion of the degree will be a condition for entry.
Normally, candidates are expected to have a degree that is relevant to the Master's degree for which they are applying. There are, however, some exceptions to this rule. Students are advised to refer to the individual programme's admission requirements.

Exchange/ Free Mover students
Please note that you must fulfil all of the following requirements to qualify for entry to the exchange programme.
Undergraduate
Students must have finished the equivalent of at least 60 ECTS.
Grade point average
All grades stated are based on the Icelandic grading system. Your home university will be able to give you information on how to convert grades.

Applications from students who do not meet the minimum grade point requirements will be considered, provided they have strong support and a good academic reference from their home institution.

Nomination
All prospective exchange students must be nominated by their home University. Exceptions will be made if you are coming as an independent exchange student. Please note that a nomination is not equal to admission. Once a student has been nominated, an assessment of their academic background will take place.
Graduate
Bachelor's degree
All students applying to the graduate exchange programme must have a bachelor's degree or a minimum of 180 ECTS.
