MSc Civil Engineering

The Department of Engineering is not accepting students for this programme at this time.

An intensive programme aimed at the sustainable and safe design of modern structures, where students apply fundamentals in material science and the physics of buildings to learn the interactions of building materials and design.

Overview

BIM - Building Information Model

The buildings of today are nothing short of masterpieces. Beautiful, pragmatic designs, built with safety and sustainability from start to finish. Our civil engineering programme trains graduates to understand, design and manage projects with a strong focus on building materials, structural analysis and sustainable design.

Deeply rooted in industry, the programme benefits from visiting professors and invited lecturers who are leading specialists in their respective fields. This collaboration with industry is designed to extend from the classroom to each students final thesis work. Research areas include concrete technology, materials science, structural analysis and design.

Credits

120 ECTS.

Language

Language of instruction is English.

Length of study

Two years, full time.

Research

Research is conducted both within our on-campus civil laboratory, and at off-campus research centres in collaboration with the following institutions.

Careers

Our programme is flexible, and aims to prepare our graduates for success in either industry or further academic study. Graduates develop the academic rigour to pursue doctoral studies with a specialised research focus, as well as the practical skills necessary for a leading career in industry.

Chartered Engineer

The programme is designed to meet the curriculum requirements for the professional title of chartered engineer, as defined by the Ministry of Industry and the Association of Chartered Engineers in Iceland (Icelandic: Verkfræðingur).

After successful completion of the programme the student is awarded the degree Master of Science in Civil Engineering, and is eligible to apply for the title of Chartered Engineer in Iceland.
