The Department of Law provides students with a solid theoretical foundation, extensive knowledge of key subjects, and the possibility of studying individual fields in considerable depth. Teaching is in the form of lectures, practical projects, and discussion sessions.

The Department offers law studies on an undergraduate, graduate , and PhD level. Courses are taught in Icelandic, with some courses available in English for exchange students.

Main research areas are Tort Law, Insurance Law, Maritime Law, Law of the Sea, International Law, EU/EEA Law, Constitutional Law and History, Comparative Constitutional Law, Social Security Law, Property Law, Human Rights Law, Capital Market Law, Company Law, Energy Law and Competition Law.
