Students urged to keep an eye on the weather forecast today
Hurricane force winds, up to 30m/s are forecast in most of Iceland later today. The Icelandic Met Office has issued an orange warning for weather conditions in the capital area. According to the forecast, the weather will be worst in W-Reykjavik, in Kjalarnes and Mosfellsbær. Traffic will probably be very slow and roads to and from Reykjavik will be closed.
Municipalities in the capital area have asked parents to pick up their kids before 3 pm. We would like to encourage you to keep an eye on the weather and weather forecast today and leave school soon after lunch, if possible. Teachers have been asked to give students leeway to leave school after lunch. There are a few exams today and as the forecast is now, they will not be postponed, but students living outside the capital area will be allowed to take the exams in their home area.
Information about road conditions and weather condition can be found at The Road and Coastal Administration (IRCA)
