At the beginning of February, a seminar was organized by the Department of Law at Reykjavik University regarding the preliminary ruling of the International Court of Justice in The Hague in the recently handed down case of South Africa v Israel.

South Africa's case concerns Israel's alleged violation of the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Collective Murder. In its ruling, the Court considered it possible (plausible) that a gang murder took place in Gaza or will take place. Given this, the Court ruled on measures that Israel must follow, including immediate action to ensure humanitarian aid to Gaza and to do everything in its power to prevent and punish public statements inciting genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. The interim rulings of the International Court of Justice at The Hague are binding and cannot be appealed.

Speakers were, Dr. Þórdís Ingadóttir, prófessor at the Department of Law at Reykjavik University, Dr. Bjarni Már Magnússon, professor and dean of the Department of Law at the Univerisity at Bifröst and og Dr. Kári Hólmar Ragnarsson, lektor at the Department of Law at the University of Iceland.
