Reykjavík University is now a full participant in NeurotechEU

25.11.2022

Reykjavík University is now officially a full participant in NeurotechEU, the European University of Brain and Technology, a joint project (European University Initiative) of several leading European research universities in the field of neuro-technology. Universities within NeurotechEU- enjoy diverse benefits from it. NeurotechEU facilitates the exchange of education, research, and employment. This means that students can take lessons at all the institutions involved, not constrained by institutional capabilities and borders. They can thus gain international experience and benefit from the specific expertise of the various universities.

Bryndís Björk Ásgeirsdóttir, Dean of the School of Social Science, Luka Biedebacher, Ph.D. student of The Reykjavík University Sleep Institute, Deborah Cecelia Rose Jacob Ph.D. student of the Institute of Biomedical and Neural Engineering and Ragnhildur Helgadóttir, President of RU.

For scientists, it will lead to improving the education they provide and smoother cooperation in research.

In this way, the initiative trains new researchers and engineers at the highest possible level, with a background and network in several institutes. This improves Europe's position in brain research and engineering and provides well-educated people to tackle future societal problems.

Reykjavik University (Iceland) has a wide range of expertise and facilities relevant to NeurotechEU, especially in neurorobotics, neuroinformatics, and clinical neurotechnology.

"We are excited to join NeurotechEU and work even closer with the participating universities. We firmly believe that this will strengthen both Reykjavik University and NeurotechEU. It is vitally important for small universities to cooperate with others when developing their course offerings, infrastructure, and research. Still, we also bring considerable technical and cross-disciplinary strength to the table. I am truly delighted that our cooperation has reached this stage," Ragnhildur Helgadóttir, President of Reykjavík University, says.

The founding partners of NeurotechEU are Radboud University, Miguel Hernández University of Elche (Spain), Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), University of Bonn (Germany), Boğaziçi University (Turkey), University of Oxford (United Kingdom), Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Romania) and University of Debrecen (Hungary). Earlier this month, it was announced that the University of Lille (France) is also joining NeurotechEU.
