Largest group of new students in the history of Reykjavik University
This autumn semester has seen the largest group of new students ever to enroll at Reykjavik University. In total 1418 students have enrolled for studies at RU, compared to 1300 in the autumn 2013. This semester also saw a record number of applications to study, more than 2,500 in total were received. This is an 11.3% increase in applications compared to last year.
The largest increases were in the schools of Computer Science and Business, then the School of Science and Engineering, which received a record number of applications for the MSc programmes in sustainable energy.
A large number of applications were also received for the four new interdisciplinary programmes that will be offered for the first time in the autumn. Finally, there was a pronounced increase in the number of applications for master's programmes across all departments at the University.
The number of new enrolled students shows a growing interest in the courses offered by the University in technology, business and law, and confirms the strong position of RU in education in these fields. Reykjavik University graduates two thirds of technology students at university level in Iceland, half of those completing a business degree and a third of those completing law studies.
Today, Dr. Ari Kristinn Jónsson, President of the University, welcomed the new students at the formal opening ceremony for the new school year 2014-2015.
