Drones, apps and safety equipment for cars
First year students from all of RU's academic departments form interdisciplinary groups during a three-week session each spring after exams to finish a course in startup and innovation. Last Friday, awards were given out for the best ideas.
The course requires the groups to put forth their own ideas for a startup business, to work on those projects for three weeks, make a business plan, prototypes and present their ideas regularly.
These are the projects that received awards this year:
Quicksaver
Equipment for cars that senses rolling and impact of the vehicle and sends an alarm to rescue services automatically.
Eftirhyggjubókin
An app to monitor symptoms of patients and facilitate the interaction between doctors and patients.
Sonar Drone
Drones that search for the accurate location of fishing grounds and thereby save time and cost.
DontDrive&Die
An app to reduce use of smartphones while driving by locking the phone if travelling at a pace of more than 10 km/hour. This group was awarded for incorporating social responsibility.
