Dr Kamilla Rún Jóhannsdóttir appointed Chair of RU's Department of Psychology

Dr Kamilla Rún Jóhannsdóttir has been appointed Chair of the Department of Psychology at Reykjavík University.

Dr Jóhannsdóttir completed her doctoral studies in cognitive science focusing on applied cognitive psychology, cognitive research and philosophy of mind, from Carleton University in, Ottawa, Canada in 2004 and a BA degree in psychology from the University of Iceland in 1996. She has been director of undergraduate studies in psychology since 2014, associate professor at the Department of Psychology since 2019, and a substitute Chair of the Department this year. She has been a member of RU's ethics committee since 2011 and chairman of the Study Council of the Department of Psychology. She has been actively involved in the policy-making of the Department since its establishment and has been involved in structuring its undergraduate studies. She takes over the position from Dr Bryndís Björk Ásgeirsdóttir, who recently took over the position of Dean of the School of Social Sciences.

Dr Jóhannsdóttir is a respected scientist in the field of cognitive and applied psychology and has led and participated in large interdisciplinary research projects. Her main research projects include research on the diagnosis of stress, strain and fatigue in air traffic control through measurements of physiological factors and use of artificial intelligence and research on mental skills in connection with sleep disorders. Kamilla has published numerous scientific articles in international scientific journals. She also has extensive experience of teaching at university level, is a supervisor for doctoral students in psychology and has supervised a number of master's and BSc research projects.
