Cross-disciplinary project from four RU departments allocated Rannís grant
Every year, universities' researchers receive grants from the Research Foundation (Rannís) to develop their research projects. The allocation of grants was announced last Friday, January 27. Among the projects that researchers at RU were allocated grants for, is research on silicon, analysis of multimedia data, and the shape of broadband antennas.
A research group led by Paolo Gargiulo, a RU's Department of Engineering professor, received an Excellence Grant (Icelandic: Öndvegisstyrkur) from the Research Foundation for just over 55 million ISK. Excellence Grants are awarded to large projects that excel in their field and have an international connection.
The group comprises researchers from four university departments: engineering, computer science, psychology, and sports science, working on an interdisciplinary project; Postural control signature: Advance assessment and diagnosis using the BioVRSea paradigm, which includes objective diagnosis of concussion, Parkinson, and anxiety.
This year's budget for the fund is 3.7 billion. The Research Fund received 337 valid applications, and 74 were funded, or 22% of the applications. Of these, 20 applications for excellence grants were received, and four were funded, or 20% of the applications.
Researchers in RU were also allocated grants for four other projects, and three Ph.D. students were given grants for their projects.
