Agreement of collaboration signed between Reykjavik University and Icelandic Standards

2.3.2021

Icelandic Standards (IST) and Reykjavík University (RU) have signed a co-operation agreement. According to the agreement, students can complete an internship with IST and RU students and teachers can now request free and temporary reading access to standards.

About 53,000 valid standards are now available in the Icelandic standard list. Available there are standards from the international organisations ISO and IEC, the European organisations CEN and CENELEC, Nordic standards under the INSTA brand and special Icelandic and translated standards. The Standards Register is part of the IST's online store, where clients can search for standards by numbers, keywords, ICS categories, and individual technical committees.

IST offers RU students internships that can be tailored to the needs of students. The subjects of standards are diverse and therefore it is possible to link them to studies in all disciplines. Internships with IST give students an advantage on the job market, as there is little standard-related study in Iceland. The IST has good access to experts from international standards organisations which could also be useful in this regard.

Examples of interesting internships approaches:

  • The United Nations Global Goals for Sustainability
  • CE markings
  • standards and legislation
  • standards and AI
  • standards in the construction industry
  • standards in tourism
  • standards and innovation
  • public procurement standards
  • standards that promote sustainability
  • standards and consumer protection
  • European standards as a backbone in ensuring a homogeneous internal market in Europe.
