Enjoying Reykjavik and Iceland
The RU International Visiting Week also provides participants with an opportunity to explore both Reykjavik and Iceland, and we strongly encourage you to use this opportunity to see some of our amazing country. There are many things to see and do, both in Reykjavik and the surrounding area, and day trips to some of Iceland´s amazing sights can be easily organised.
Things to do in Reykjavik
- Try a relaxing soak in one of the cities heated outdoor swimming pools
- Visit the newly constructed, Harpa concert hall, and be amazed at this outstanding piece of architecture that has attracted visitors from all over the world.
- Try some of Iceland´s famous Hot dogs at Baejarins Bestu (even Bill Clinton could not miss out on trying this)
- Visit Hallgrimskirkja church and take the elevator to the top, to check out the panoramic view of down-town Reykjavik.
- Visit Perlan, a landmark building in Reykjavik, where a revolving restaurant has been placed on top of the cities hot water storage tanks. Perlan also provides a breath taking view of the city, if you step out onto the 360 degrees balcony.
- Go for a dip in Iceland´s only geothermal heated beach, which is located next to the university.
- Check out the traditional flea market, Kolaportið, which is held every weekend.
- and finally no trip to Reykjavik can be complete without checking out the unique cafes and culture on offer in down-town Reykjavik.
