Árni Þór Sigurðsson

REYKJAVIK, February 19 - Last Friday the Icelandic School of Energy held a Meet the Energy Industry session with Árni Þór Sigurðsson, the Icelandic Ambassador for the Arctic Council. Mr. Sigurðsson discussed the main challenges facing the Arctic, including global warming, resource development, protecting indigenous communities and preventing potential geopolitical over-spill into the historically congenial Arctic relations.

According to Mr. Sigurðsson, the Arctic Council provides a framework for international cooperation and peaceful dispute resolution. In this regard, he is hopeful that the Council will continue to be effective in dealing with the challenges facing the Arctic today and in the future.

The Arctic Council website provides more information on Mr. Sigurðsson's work and Iceland's larger policy on the arctic.
