Students get to choose “pass/fail” as a grading option for spring semester 2020 courses

23.3.2020

In order to respond to the difficult and complex circumstances students are experiencing during the COVID19 pandemic, Reykjavik University has decided to allow students to choose “pass/fail” as a grading option for spring semester 2020 courses. This applies to undergraduate and graduate students.

Students choose whether and which courses they choose to have as “pass/fail” courses. To receive “pass” in a course, students must complete course elements that correspond to at least half of the total grade, with acceptable results.

The objective is to reduce the load on students over the coming weeks and make them better able to complete the semester. This decision is in line with changes being made to the course structure and grading at many universities around the world, so as to reduce the impact the pandemic has on student progression.
