Information regarding COVID-19

According to information from the Directorate of Health in Iceland, as of this Friday, March 6th, 43 individuals in Iceland have been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the COVID-19 disease. None of them has become seriously ill. No RU students or employees are among those infected.

Disinfectant alcohol is to be found in all RU restrooms and near elevators. Posters from the Landspitali University Hospital with tips on how to avoid infection have been placed throughout the RU building.The Reykjavik University COVID-19 response strategy, which is under constant revision, specifies responses to possible scenarios regarding learning and teaching, travel, communication, events etc. The university administration meets regularly to go over recent events and plans and closely tracks all developments relating to COVID-19.

The University follows all instructions and mandates from Icelandic health authorities relating to COVID-19. Furthermore, cleaning frequency has been increased for surfaces such as lift buttons, handrails, tables etc., and disinfectant is now added to all cleaning solutions used by the cleaning staff. 

RU employees should not travel to designated high-risk areas and RU does not receive visitors from these areas. Employees have been urged not to take on unnecessary travel. Health officials have asked that any staff and students that have recently arrived from these designated high-risk areas to place themselves in quarantine at home for two weeks. 

Students who have to stay away from RU, based on instructions from health authorities will be given all possible flexibility regarding their studies. Students in this position should contact the office of their departments. RU Student Counselling can advise those students that are quarantined about their studies and wellbeing.
