Vitinn, an innovative competition linked to the fishing industry in Iceland, was held last week for RU students. The competition has been held with the loyal support of Fisheries Iceland (SFS) and Icelandair Cargo since 2015, but this year the competitors worked on solutions and development for Ice Fresh Seafood.

Innovation competitions like these are an important experience for Reykjavík University students who, through the competition, gain valuable knowledge about a viable project in collaboration with a successful fishing company. The competition is a good example of Reykjavík University's excellent cooperation with the business world, where innovation, knowledge, and entrepreneurial thinking come together.

The winning team this year is called Babylon. Its members are Oddur Óli Helgason, Bjarki Dan Andrésson, Dagur Már Oddson, Emil Örn Aðalsteinsson and Sofia Sóley Jónasdóttir, students of engineering and computer science. They will visit the Boston seafood expo on behalf of RU and visit companies and universities in the area.

We really enjoyed competing in Vitinn and experienced good teamwork and competitive spirit during the competition. We learned more about exciting opportunities withing this industry and look forward to visiting the Seafood Expo in Boston. Some of us will be visiting the United States for the first time and we are over the moon with our success!
