24 million ISK allocated for research through industry collaboration

University of Reykjavik partners, Icelandair Group, Isavia, LS Retail and Fisheries Iceland will provide a total of 24 million krona for research at masters and doctoral level in the academic year 2016-2017. 

One of RU's foundations is the univerity's ties with industry. For instance, students and scientists work on various research and innovation projects with companies and instiutions. Recently, the joint committee of RU and these partners allocated the abovementioned amount for various research projects of masters and PhD students. 

Icelandair Group

IcelandairGroupIcelandair Group will fund the following research projects. Amount: 5 milllion ISK. 

  • Impact of Icelandair's social media message design and content on customer behavior, supervised by Valdimar Sigurðsson, associate professor and R. G. Vishnu Menon, lecturer, both at RU School of Business.
  • Monitoring cognitive workload in aviation by monitoring speech, supervised by Jón Guðnason, assistant professor at RU School of Science and Engineering and Kamilla Rún Jóhannsdóttir, assistant professor and programme director of BSc studies in psychology. 
  • Analytical methods for revenue management and price optimization, supervised by Hlynur Stefánsson, associate professor at the School of Science and Engineering.
  • Connectivity in Air Transportation, supervised by Þorgeir Pálsson, professor, and Hlynur Stefánsson, associate professor, both at the School of Science and Engineering.

  • Financial Assessment and Risk Analysis for Airport Parking Investment, supervised by Páll Jensson, professor and Þórður Víkingur Friðgeirsson, assistant professor, both at RU School of Science and Engineering. 
  • Airport Hotel Financial Assessment and Risk Analysis, supervised by Páll Jensson, professor and Þórður Víkingur Friðgeirsson, assistant professor, both at RU School of Science and Engineering. 
  • Viðhald á malbikuðum slitlögum, supervised by Haraldur Sigþórsson lecturer at the School of Science and Engineering. 
  • Airport Lounge, supervised by Þórður Víkingur Friðgeirsson, assistant professor at RU School of Science and Engineering. 
  • Construction Plan of the 3rd Runway, supervised by Þórður Víkingur Friðgeirsson, assistant professor at RU School of Science and Engineering. 
  • Task Load Assessment in Air Traffic Control, supervised by Jón Guðnason, assistant professor at RU School of Science and Engineering, Kamilla Rún Jóhannsdóttir, assistant professor and programme director of BSc studies in psychology and Arnab Majmudar at Imperial College London.
  • Towards Safe Trusted Automation for Air Traffic Control, supervised by Kristinn R. Þórisson, professor at RU School of Computer Science and Þorgeir Pálsson, professor at RU School of Science and Engineering.

LS-RetailLS Retail will fund the following research projects. Amount: 4 million ISK. 

  • Churn Prediction and Customer Segmentation Using Data Mining and Machine Learning Methods, supervised by Hlynur Stefánsson, associate professor and Eyjólfur Ingi Ásgeirsson, assistant professor, both at the School of Science and Engineering.
  • Basket Analysis and Customized Offers Using Data Mining and Machine Learning Methods, supervised by Hlynur Stefánsson, associate professor and Eyjólfur Ingi Ásgeirsson, assistant professor, both at the School of Science and Engineering.

  • Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction - the Icelandic Perspective, supervised by Bjarni Már Magnússon, assistant professor at RU School of Law.
