The Sustainability Institute & Forum (SIF)

What is SIF?

The Sustainability Institute & Forum (SIF) is a research institute at Reykjavik University that engages all departments in matters relating to sustainable development.

"The objective of SIF is to foster research and education in sustainable development focusing on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)"

SIF launched in earnest in the first quarter of 2020. Since it's inception, SIF has openly and actively engaged our talent pool of faculty members and keen students in sustainably oriented research through open strategy meetings, grants and funding through yearly grant calls, and through our annual SIF Institute Meeting.

SIF Membership

Membership is open to all staff & faculty at Reykjavik University. All departments are encouraged to participate, as sustainability paradigms and practices can be applied to a wide variety of research. To apply, visit the application form under Participate.

SIF Strategy Meetings

Held every January, the SIF strategy meeting is open to active SIF Members. Meetings review the past and planned activities, funding allocation, SIF management, and engagement with industry.

SIF Institute Meetings

Each year in June, we host our annual SIF Institute Meeting open to the public. It is encouraged that RU staff and students attend, as well as interested members of industry and the wider community. Past and planned events and activities are reviewed and announced, recipients of new grands and funding are announced, and more. As well, at each SIF Institute Meeting one student project (individual or group) is awarded the SIF Student Award in Sustainability.
