MSc Mechatronic Engineering

A graduate programme that combines a solid theoretical foundation in physical science and mathematics, with engineering design and entrepreneurship. Our students gain strong engineering and problem solving skills, and get to know all aspects of the engineering design process, from conception and development through operation and implementation. One of our key focus points is that the students develop strong team-working skills.

Automated devices and robots are technologies that are used in industry and production, but also in all kinds of equipment that we use in our daily lives, such as cars, household appliances, artificial organs, prosthetics and toys. In Mechatronics, students combine the subjects of Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and study the design of complex technical equipment. 

Structure

  • The degree requirement is 120 ECTS, or equivalent of 4 semesters of full time study, following a 180 ECTS undergraduate study.
  • Full time study is consider to be 30 ECTS per semester. Courses are usually 6-8 ECTS.
  • Students have a choice of completing either a 30 or a 60 ECTS MSc thesis.
  • In addition to the field requirements, students are encouraged to select from a variety of elective courses based on their personal interest. 
  • Exchange studies are available.

Admission

Admission requirement is an undergraduate study in mechatronic or electrical engineering or related disciplines.

Upon graduation, students should fulfil all requirements of the Ministry of Industries and the Icelandic Association of Engineers to obtain the professional title of Engineer. Therefore, students must have completed a prescribed set of engineering foundation and science courses.

Assistance is provided to students that need to increase the scope of their previous studies, in order to adhere to the recommendations above.
