Dean‘s selection grant is a grant where tuition is waived for the first semester of study. Fall 2010 up to 10 grants of this type will be awarded.
An application for full time studies in the SSE MSc programmme is also an application for either one of these two grants. The grants are awarded on the bases of the quality of the student's profile in view of past studies, past experience and fit to the programme applied for.
All of the recipients of the dean selection grants will have priority for teaching assistantships during their MSc studies.
Teaching Assistantship
The School of Science and Engineering offers teaching assistantship for Master's students. The grants are intended for students pursuing full-time studies who have not received any other scholarship from Reykjavik University.
In their application to the School of Science and Engineering, students should specifically mention whether they wish to apply for a teaching assistant grant.
Students can also send an e-mail to the Graduate Administrator of Master's studies (johannafd@ru.is) to the same effect.
The work contribution of students with a teaching assistantship generally includes the instruction of two problem-solving class groups in the same course (or similar course) during each semester. All teaching carried out by students with a teaching assistant grant is conducted under the supervision of the respective supervisory instructor and an experienced teaching assistant.
Students who receive a teaching assistantship get half of their tuition fees waived and furthermore receive a salary for 8 months of teaching (September – April).
Other Grants
Master's students can apply to have their tuition fees waived and to receive a salary during the period while they work full-time on their Master's assignment.
