Information literacy

If students want their work methods to be characterised by quality and academic professionalism, they have to be able to locate, evaluate, organise, and use information in a critical and responsible manner - be information literate.

Such work methods are among the knowledge and skills that bachelor´s degree holders should possess according to the National Qualification Framework of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture concerning studies and degrees at higher education institutions from 16. of May 2011.

According to the framework this entails that degree holders:

  • can apply the basic elements of information technology
  •  recognise when further data is needed and have the ability to retrieve it, assess its reliability and apply it in an appropriate manner
  • can use reliable data- and information resources in the relevant scientific field

Knowledge creation is one of the main roles of RU and to support and enhance that role, the Library and Information Services provides access to key electronic databases in RU's fields of study.
