To find an article on your subject, you need to do three things ...
1. Select a Database

  • Most databases to which LIRU subscribes index information on articles from journals in specific subject fields; information on author, title, and content along with other information which pertains to individual articles. Information thus registered is generally searchable.
  • To familiarise yourself with what is available in a particular subject field, you can select a database by subject on LIRU's homepage. After you've selected a subject category, a list of databases in the respective subject field appears along with comments on each database. Links to user instructions are also available
  • To select databases on LIRU's homepage, you can also use a database select list or an alphabetised index

2. Search for Articles on Specific Subjects

  • Select search terms carefully. Use terms which describe the subject well in the database index if such a feature is available (thesaurus, topic, indexing terms). It may sometimes be necessary to use dictionaries to select effective search terms
  • Search for material by reputable authors in the respective field
  • Remember to specify the search criteria which limit the search (author, title, company, person, subject...)
  • Use AND / OR to connect search terms
  • Send us an e-mail if you need any assistance: library@ru.is

3. Retrieve Articles - Full Text

  • Often a link is available to the full text of an article for reading from screen or for printing out
  • The link find_it_54x20  means find a full-text article at RU. It links to the full text of an article in a database or on the Web. It may also link to LIRU´s ILL (interlibrary loans) or article services. If you see Finna heildartexta / Find fulltext in databases in country wide access it means the same.
  • If a subscribed journal appears in search results, a link will be available to the database which contains it
  • If a subscribed journal appears in search results, the years from which copies are available will be listed
  • If a journal is only available in print, the link will lead to the library system, Gegnir, where further information is available
  • Use the CitationLinker to find articles in eJournals. Change language
  • Information on all journals purchased by LIRU is available on the Journals and ArticleFinder. Change language
