Each year the Iceland School of Energy admits a cohort of roughly 30 students from a wide range of backgrounds, who all have a shared passion for finding ways to meet the growing energy demand for sustainable energy. How does the admissions process at the Iceland School of Energy work?

Check Admissions Requirements Page

Prospective students are asked to check the admissions requirements page to determine their eligibility for the Iceland School of Energy as well as for the M.Sc. programme they wish to apply. The application will not be processed if the admissions requirements are not met. 

Submit the Application

After checking the admissions requirements page and determining application eligibility, students are encouraged to prepare the documents listed below. Prospective students can then apply on the University application site

  • CV / Resume
  • Official University Transcripts (hard copy or digital accepted)
  • 2 Letters of Reference (sent to admissions@ru.is directly from referee's institutional email)
  • Photocopy of Passport
  • Personal Statement (Approximately 500 words)
  • English Language Test Score Certificate (if applicable)
A grade point average of 8 out of 10 or equivalent is recommended.

Application is Submitted

Once a complete application has been submitted, and reference letters have been received, the application is sent for document verification by the Admissions Council. The Admissions Council performs a document check to verify that all documents have been obtained. At this time, prospective students may be contacted to provide additional documentation.

Time: 2 - 3 weeks

Selection

The Admissions Council meets and reviews each application for consideration for the programme they have selected. At this time, the Admissions Council determines if an application is selected. If chosen to continue through the process, the applicant is invited for an interview with one of the committee members.

Time: 1 week

Interview

Selected applicants are invited for a 30-minute video interview with one of the members of the Admissions Council.

Time: 1 week

Decision

After the interview, the Admissions Council meets to determine if an applicant is offered admission. The decision is provided to the applicant generally within a week.
