Green Presidential visit to discuss renewable energy

5.12.2013

Today the GREEN Program students, along with Reykjavik University and South Iceland Adventure, met with Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, the President of Iceland. The group met to discuss renewable energy in Iceland and globally, and the role of politics in its advancement. The President particularly focused on the new wave of "small” and family based renewable energy projects that can now have a massive influence on the future of renewable energy since the implementation of the super- grid.

The President also pointed out that the history of renewable energy development in Iceland was not, as many may expect, advanced through a "grand governmental plan". In fact the advancement was led by small ventures and individuals that were driven by financial and human interests.
