The main emphasis of the SSE graduate programme:

  • Modern engineering studies focusing on applications to industry and translational research
  • A strong emphasis are placed on the challenges of the 21st century through a strong foundation in classical techniques and methods of engineering
  • An internationally oriented program where international faculty and visiting professors have a key role
  • Multidisciplinary programs that build on relations with other schools at Reykjavík University and other Universities
  • Varied research based on close cooperation between industry and academia

International research in the SSE

The School of Science and Engineering places a strong emphasises on having active research and development within its walls. Most faculty members are actively engaged in scientific work and the published output from faculty has increased rapidly in the last few years. The number of peer reviewed papers that faculty have authored has almost doubled in the period from 2007-2009. The SSE now has research output per researcher at the best national level and comparable to many excellent foreign universities.

The research topics in which SSE faculty engage are varied and are in many ways a reflection of the broad range of studies offered in the School that provides a full range undergraduate and graduate  level programs in all of the major engineering disciplines and related sciences. The activity is based in smaller and larger research groups and centres that are connected to one or more of the Schools focus areas. The list of research groups can be found here. The School also has close connections to research in other institution such as the Innovation centre Iceland, Landspitlali-University hospital and the Icelandic Blood bank.
