Progress of B.A. Studies in General

The B.A. study in law is comprised of a total of 180 ECTS, divided over three years (first, second and third year of studies). As a rule students are expected to complete 15 credits/30 ECTS per semester or 60 ECTS per year, based on a normal progression of studies. A student may enroll for the second year of studies at the of if (s)he has completed at least 48 ECTS of the first year program, with an average grade of 6.0 or higher. To commence the third year of studies a student must have completed at least 96 ECTS from the first and second years of studies, with an average grade of 6.0 or higher. A student shall have completed at least 90 ECTS no later than two years after his/her last enrolment in the first year studies. A student shall have completed at least 126 ECTS three years after his/her last enrolment in the first year studies. A student must have completed the B.A. degree no later than four years after his/her last enrolment in the first year studies.

Maximum units that a student can take

A student can register for a maximum of 36 ECTS each semester. If a student wishes to accumulate more than 36 ECTS, the student in question must apply for permission from the Faculty Administrator.

Re-registration

If a student completes credits at the of but does not fulfill the abovementioned minimum requirements for study progress (s)he looses the right to continue studies at the of . The student may however apply for re-admission to the School. A student who is re-admitted keeps, should s/he so request, the courses/credits that (s)he has concluded with a grade of 6.0 or higher. This right shall become void 6 years after the completion of the semester during which the course was attended.

Leave of absense

A student may apply to the of for a leave of absense of his/her studies. The request shall be supported by satisfactory documentation showing that there are valid reasons for the request. Among the reasons that may justify leave of absense of studies are i.e. childbirth or illness. Permission may be granted with certain conditions.

Exemptions

The of may grant further exemptions from the rules on study progress if there are valid reasons for granting such exemptions in the opinion of the School. In the carrying out of that review, the opinion of representatives of students at RU School of Law must be sought.
