Students progress to their second year of studies if they have completed at least 48 ECTS in first year. Students must complete at least 90 ECTS and have finished all required 1st year courses before they start 3rd year study. Maximum time to complete a degree is two years on top of the standard length of program.

Progress in the BSc Part-Time Programme

Students in the BSc part-time programme progress to their second year of studies if they have completed at least 36 ECTS in first year. Students shall have completed at least 72 ECTS two years after enroling for first year studies. Students shall have completed at least 108 ECTS three years after enroling for first year studies. Students shall have completed at least 144 ECTS four years after enroling for first year studies. Maximum time to complete a degree is two years on top of the standard length of program. Students in the Diploma programme shall have completed 90 ECTS over the course of 8 semesters.

Re-Enrolment
If students do not fulfil the School's requirements for progressing to the next year of studies, they can apply for re-enrolment (*). The School of Business reserves the right to decline students who apply for re-enrolment. If students' request for re-enrolment is approved, they only retain those courses for which their grade was 6,0 or higher.
*Applications for re-enrolment shall be in writing and shall be sent to a Project Manager in the BSc programme.

Recognition of Previous University-Level Studies
1.
If students have completed university-level courses which are fully comparable to courses offered at RU, they can apply for recognition of the courses.
2.
Students must submit a written application to the School for recognition of previous studies. The application form is available at the RU office and on the Web site of the School of Business. The application needs to specify the courses which students wish to have recognised in addition to the courses offered by RU which are comparable. For an application to be considered the following information needs to accompany it:

  1. Official transcripts of grades from the university where the previous studies were pursued.
  2. Course descriptions from the university where the studies were pursued.

3.      Applications for recognition of previous studies must be submitted before 1 June in relation to the fall semester and before 1 December in relation to the spring semester. Applications which arrive too late will not be taken under consideration until the next semester. Applications for recognition of previous studies shall be sent to a Project Manager in the BSc programme who will put the application to an assessment committee. Conclusions of assessment committees shall have been reached a month later. Those conclusions shall be addressed by the Academic Affairs Council in August and December of each year. A Project Manager in the BSc programme then sends conclusions of the Academic Affairs Council to students.
4.
In order for a course to be recognised, the opinion of the respective Programme Director and supervisory instructor must be that the course is comparable to a course taught at RU. Applicants can not expect a course to be recognised if it was taken over six years ago, if their grade for the course was lower than 7,0 or if the course was worth less than 6 ECTS. Recognition of previous studies can never amount to more than 90 ECTS in the BSc programme and 60 ECTS in the MSc programmes. Previous studies are not recognised in the MBA programme.

Prerequisites for Courses
Prerequisites for individual courses are specified in the course catalogue on RU's Web site.

Maximum Number of Credits a Student Can Take
Students pursuing a BSc degree can register for a maximum of 36 ECTS per semester. Students can apply for an exemption to a Project Manager in the BSc programme, but such exemptions are only made if the respective student has an average grade of 7,5 or higher.

General Clause on Expiry of Courses
Courses which students have passed expire in nine years if the respective students do not graduate from RU (*).
* Students allowed to re-enrol can apply for permission to halt the expiry of courses while they pursue their studies. Such permission is only granted once and is dependent on students progressing adequately in their studies.

Independent Study Courses
Students can apply to take an independent study course under the guidance of an instructor. This can be an adaptation of a general course which an instructor supervises or it can be work on a specialised research project under the guidance of a tenured instructor. Whether to grant or decline such a request is wholly the decision of the instructor in question. Instructors shall inform the Director and Project Manager of the programme about students they plan to instruct in independent study courses. Students can complete a maximum of  6 ECTS in such courses.

Rules on Exam Taking
Students can take each course two times and take the exams offered each time. To take a course means to have been registered in the course after the deadline for recession has passed. If students do not pass a course at the second time they are de-registered from the programme. They then need to apply for re-enrolment. If their application is approved, they only retain those courses for which their grade was 6,0 or higher.

Leave from Studies
Students can apply for a leave from studies, but should note that such an arrangement is subject to certain conditions. Students apply for a leave of one semester at a time and can at most take a leave of two semesters total (three semesters in the part-time programme) or one school year. Students must apply specially for an extension of a leave from studies. If students do not register for courses after their leave has come to an end, they are de-registered from the programme. Applications for a leave from studies shall be sent to the Director of the programme with valid reasons specified for the request. Among the reasons which can justify a leave from studies are, for example, child birth or illness. If the reason for the leave is illness, a medical certificate must, for example, accompany the application. If an application is accepted, an agreement is made between the student and RU concerning the leave with clauses on study progress specified as needed.

Exemptions
Exemptions from progress rules are only granted if agreed to by the Academic Affairs Council. Exemptions are not granted without valid reasons behind them, such as child birth, disability, or serious illness of the student or close relation. Applications for an exemption shall be sent to the Director of the programme or the Dean with appropriate supporting documents, for example, a medical certificate.
